What Causes Trees and Shrubs to Die?

*** Caveats:  If adding kitchen waste to the compost pile, your pile may attract unwanted guests such as rodents, raccoons, bears, etc.  Acceptable kitchen waste includes corn husks, coffee grounds, and vegetable peels.  Unacceptable kitchen waste would be anything with meat, bones, grease, fish, citrus peels, dairy products, etc.  When in doubt, leave it out.  Find out more here.

You can keep things simple:  It is not necessary to turn your pile on a regular basis or add nitrogen to your pile – it will just take longer to get compost.  Also a bin is not necessary.  Even simple bins, though, keep your pile stationary.

When situating your pile or bin, consider the aesthetics of placement in terms of views from the street and/or  neighbors' homes.
