In the meantime, last year's schedule below (2023) will give you an idea of the types of meetings and programs we host for club members and the community.

Saturday, Feb 18, 2023 – Community Rain Barrel Workshop – 11:00 -12:30 pm -- Hedges Chapel

Speaker:  Frank Rodgers, Cacapon Institute 

Rain barrels attached to downspouts can help you conserve water easily and prevent damage to your landscaping due to roof run-off.  In partnership with the Cacapon Institute we will be offering a rain barrel workshop which includes an informative presentation on how to get the most out of the barrels a barrel to take home plus the attachments needed.  Installing a rain barrel would be a fun family project to interest kids in conservation and the environment. This event is now closed to new reservations.

Wednesday, March 15, 2023 (Snow date of March 29) – 1:30 pm – Hedges Chapel

Managing Public Lands for Wildlife - Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area

Speaker: Chelsey Faller, District 2 Wildlife Biologist, WV Division of Natural Resources

Sleepy Creek is one of the largest WMAs in the state and features a 205-acre lake and forested ridge lines. Learn how WVDNR wildlife and fisheries biologists work to restore and enhance habitat for native wildlife. Seed Swap

Climate Change: The Case for Less Lawn

Speaker: Dusty Graham, Wash. Co. Master Gardener 

Over the past year or so we have been reading so much about climate change and may be worried for our children and grandchildren. Come and learn what we can do as individuals to address this issue.

Sunday afternoon, April 16– Wildflower Walk 

In coordination with the Eastern Panhandle Chapter of the West Virginia Native Plant Society we will take a leisurely walk to enjoy the emerging spring native plants. The mission of the WVNPS is to further the appreciation and conservation of the state’s flora through education and voluntary action. Space limited. Adding Pizzazz to Your Landscape

Speaker: Jim Poole, Jim Poole Home Projects

Ideas for adding hardscapes to your garden or landscaping.  Items like water features, ponds, fire pits, fancy patios, pergolas, raised beds and retaining walls can help you enjoy and use your outdoor spaces more fully.  Project examples and Q&A. 

 

Saturday, June 3, 2023 – Pollinator Picnic – Monarch Waystation Garden area – 1:00 - 3:30 pm

Due to the popularity of our Monarch Garden among families and individuals, we’ve created an additional free family event for “kids” ages 3-103.  With our help and the resources you receive, you will be able to plant a pollinator-attracting garden of your own at home. Wednesday, June 21, 2023 – Trip to Longwood Gardens – no formal meeting in June

Come join us as we travel together to Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Museum of Art in Pennsylvania by luxury coach. We'll stop for dinner on our way home at MacGregor's, a popular seafood restaurant overlooking the Susquehanna River.  Our trip begins and ends at The Woods to make it super-convenient, but you don't have to be a Woods resident or club member to come along.  For more information, go to our special trip section

 

Saturday in July, 2023 – Woods Home and Garden Tour

This private event is by invitation and ticket only.  Tickets are available from Woods Garden Club members for this annual fundraising event which supports our community service projects, including the Monarch Waystation Garden and its associated events.

 

Wednesday, July 19, 2023 – 1:30 pm – Hedges Chapel

Fall Floral Wreath Making Workshop (grapevine wreath)

Leader: Dawn Copestick, Woods resident and a floral design hobbyist and creator

Create a lovely wreath for your home just in time for fall decorating.  This free workshop will be open to the first 20 members who sign-up.  Advance sign up required, open to members only.

Body-smart Gardening

Speaker: Annette Cormany, Horticulture Educator, UMD Extension of Wash. Co.  

Gardening is great exercise, but gardeners often overdo it & our bodies complain.  Learn tips & techniques for avoiding aches & injuries and enjoying gardening at every age and ability.  We'll discuss adaptive tools, types of gardens and tricks of the trade that keep gardening horticulture not HURTiculture. 

 

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 – 1:30 pm – Hedges Chapel

Pawpaws: The Forgotten Fruit 

Speaker: Rodney Dever, President of the Eastern Panhandle Chapter of the WV Native Plant Society.

The presentation will cover the history and natural history of pawpaws, Neal Peterson's story, and why we should care about pawpaws. (Rodney will include a tasting, if possible)
